David Mason is a manager with the restoration teams at the SERVPRO of Hyde Park / E. Bridgeport / Bronzeville office. For the last month, he has been assisting with the clean-up, repair, and restoration efforts in Naples, Florida in his role as manager of the Commercial Large Loss Team.
The Team was devised by SERVPRO to provide rapid support to communities hit by a major disaster like Hurricane Irma. The team specializes in helping businesses reopen so that local communities can get their economies back on track. It also helps to augment the efforts of local, state, and federal agencies repair and restore infrastructure and private homes.
In the case of the LaPlaya Beach Resort, this means getting the rooms cleaned out and restored for not just the tourist season but to provide a local address for residents to live while taking care of their own homes and businesses. In the weeks they have been working on the hotel, David and his team have removed water, ripped out carpets, walls, and more just to get to what they could clean.
Since fifteen floors and over 60 rooms were affected, this was not a simple task. The Team was augmented with over 180 residents and other temporary employees to assist in the demolition and removal of building material and property too ruined to save. After completing the demolition, David and his people examined the remaining structural property for mold and used anti-fungal agents wherever necessary.
David finished the video by stating his team should have the work completed in another week and the LaPlaya can reopen all of its rooms for reservations. He promised to put up before and after pictures as soon as they finish.
